This genre is popular in the Tihama region along the Red Sea coast from Yemen to southern Saudi Arabia, and the mountainous areas adjacent to the coast. It found its way to a wider audience with its use by the popular artists Ayoub Tarish, Ahmed Fathi, Jaber Ali Ahmed and Hassan Alwan. It is distinguished by its unique coastal rhythms, distinctive Tihami dialect and words based on local poetic colors.
