Attributed to the Yafa region of Lajh, Al-Dhalea and Abyan governorates, this genre “is known for the sharpness and lightness of its songs, as most Yemeni melodies are based on the rhythm of the Bara dance,” according to researcher Abdul Qadir Fayed in his book From Yemeni Singing. Fayed points out that historical indicators suggest that the maker of those melodies belongs to the poet, composer and singer Yahya Omar al-Yafei, whose words and melodies were famous locally and in the Arab world.
Most Yemeni and Gulf singers have performed songs of this genre, the most prominent of whom include Muhammad Saad Abdullah, Muhammad Murshid Naji, Anwar Ahmad Qassem and Khalil Muhammad Khalil.
