The humanitarian situation in Marib governorate has deteriorated since the fighting escalated early last year. Over two million civilians were displaced in Marib alone, many of whom were displaced several times over the course of the war and are living under dangerous and dire circumstances as a result.
Yemen Corner invited more than 80 NGOs that are interested in Yemen to attend a virtual discussion with local officials and civil society leaders on the humanitarian situation in Marib in light of the recent military escalation. The event was held on Thursday January 20th at 5:00-6:30 pm Yemen time / 9 AM EST.
Main speakers included the Marib governor Shiekh Sultan Al Arada, the head of the IDP unit in Marib, Saif Muthanna, as well as local civil society activists.
The purpose of the event was to provide information about the current humanitarian conditions among IDPs in the governorate, local initiatives to address them, and to identify the gaps and needs to alleviate the sufferings of IDPs.
