Presented by MEI and Yemen Corner, the event will explore the themes of resilience, art, entrepreneurship and peace in Yemen at a time of increased global concern for the future of the country. By exploring Yemen through the lenses of art and culture, the event will offer a fresh perspective and a welcome respite from war-centered media coverage. We will also launch the Yemen Corner website, an English-language resource hub run by a group of leading Yemeni researchers and journalists that aims to break the cycle of illiteracy on Yemen by providing primers on its history, society, culture, economy, politics and conflict, as well as a syllabus of books, reports, articles and websites for those interested in diving deeper. The site also offers a database of Yemeni scholars, researchers, artists and organizations.
The event will feature a panel of current and former Americans diplomats, journalists and aid workers who will share their personal experiences, impressions and memories about Yemen and its people. This will be followed by artistic performances of folk songs and traditional dances, in addition to serving different types of Yemeni dishes and coffee.
