This color is exclusively associated with the Hadhramaut region of eastern Yemen and its surroundings and is usually performed in Al-Dan gatherings, where improvised colloquial poetry is accompanied by musical instruments. From Hadhramaut it spread to various neighboring countries and has been referred to in Arabic media as “Khaliji” as commentators don't know where it came from. Among the famous poets of Hadhrami Al-Dan are Hussein Abu Bakr Al-Mihdhar, Abdullah Al-Bar and Alawi Al-Kaf.
The most important singers who performed Hadhrami Al-Dan lyrics from the first generation include Sultan bin Sheikh Ali al-Harhara, Saeed Awad Qawra, Muhammad Juma Khan and Yaslam Abdullah. Influential singers from the next generation include Abu Bakr Salem, Miftah Sbeit Kendara, Abdul Rahman al-Haddad, Muhammad Saad Abdullah, Karama Mersal, Saeed Abdul Naeem, Badawi Zubair, Haddad al-Kaf, Saeed Bahshwan and Muhammad Ahmed bin Suwaid.
